Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing — EMDR therapy is a phase focused approach to treating trauma and other symptoms by reconnecting the client in a safe and measured way to the images, thoughts, emotions and body sensations associated with disturbing memories. EMDR utilizes bilateral stimulation to access the natural healing powers of the brain to move the client towards adaptive resolution.
Humanistic Therapy — Humanistic therapy is a positive approach to psychotherapy that focuses on a client’s individual nature, rather than categorizing groups of people with similar characteristics as having the same problems. Humanistic therapy looks at the whole person, not only from the therapist’s view but from the viewpoint of individuals observing their own behavior. The emphasis is on a client’s positive traits and behaviors, and the ability to use their personal instincts to find wisdom, growth, healing and fulfillment within themselves.
Person Centered Therapy — Clients are encouraged to take more of a lead in discussions so that, in the process, they will discover their own solutions. The therapist acts as a compassionate facilitator, listening without judgment and acknowledging the client’s experience without moving the conversation in another direction. The therapist is there to encourage and support the client and to guide the therapeutic process without interrupting or interfering with the client’s process of self-discovery.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy — This form of psychotherapy treats problems and boosts happiness by modifying dysfunctional emotions, behaviors and thoughts. Cognitive-behavioral therapy focuses on solutions, encouraging clients to challenge distorted cognitions and change destructive patterns of behavior.
Solution Focused Therapy — A collaborative approach, Solution-focused therapy concentrates on finding solutions in the present time and exploring one’s hope for the future to find quicker resolution of presenting problems. This method asserts clients know what they need to do in order to improve their life and, with the appropriate coaching and questioning, they are capable of finding the best solutions.
